Dear All,
If you sometimes find yourself overwhelmed, stressed or lost in the busyness of life, perhaps this beautiful poem "Lost" by David Wagoner may resonate and support us in finding our way back. Back to our deeper Being/Self, back to Life. Some of you may know this poem. It is about an advice a First Nations elder gave to a young traveller who was lost in a forest.
Lost (by David Wagoner)
"Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known. The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you. If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you, You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you."
I find that the body is much like the forest. When we pause to reconnect with our embodied experience in this moment - in this breath, in this point of connection with the feet touching the ground, or perhaps the feeling of the back extending upwards towards the sky - when we pause and listen, or move and listen, with care and openness, we can be found, again and again.
